A weekend in Lisbon

Two days are enough for Lisbon's highlights. Day one belongs to the compact old town, day two to the Age of Discovery district of Belém. All times are guidelines.

Day 1 - Old town

From São Jorge Castle down through Alfama to the Sé (Lisbon Cathedral) and the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, one of the city's many miradouros, or scenic viewpoints, then via Praça do Comércio into Baixa and up on the Santa Justa Lift. In the evening, catch some fado in Bairro Alto.

Day 2 - Belém

Head to the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower early, with a pastel de nata (Portugal's famous custard tart) in between, then the Monument to the Discoveries and the modern MAAT museum on the riverfront.
